Department of Information Technology and Operations Management

The Mission of ITOM

The mission of the Department of Information Technology and Operations Management is to develop competence in information systems, operations management (including quality management), and related decision sciences disciplines for traditional and non-traditional students across the College of Business; to produce skilled individuals proficient in information technology who are able to contribute effectively to their organizations and communities in an ever-evolving technological environment; to engage in an active partnership with the business community; and to continually innovate and increase the quality of its educational and research activities in a manner that increases education effectiveness and global reach.

About ITOM

The Department of Information Technology and Operations Management enrollment includes over 400 undergraduate students in the Management Information Systems major. In addition, concentrations are offered in Management Information Systems and Operations Managment, in Electronic Commerce within the MBA program and in Computer Information Systems in the doctoral program.

There are three academic areas in the department :

  • Management Information Systems. Analysis and design of computer based information systems that provide accurate and timely information for use in making business decisions.
  • Operations Management. Methods and techniques for improving business productivity, includes total quality management, facility location and layout, product development, process and job design, inventory management, and quality assurance.  
  • Quantitative Methods. Operations research and applied statistical methods used in analyzing business problems.
